Installing a Digatron Tach on a Honda Odyssey FL250

In order to better know what's going on with my engine, I decided to install a Digatron tach so I could keep an eye on engine RPM's to help with calibrating the CVT belt drive system.  I ended up buying a used Digatron tach (DT-6E) that also came with a Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) function.  An Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) is much more useful for carburetor tuning, but I mainly wanted a tach anyway, so the CHT function was just an added bonus.  As it turns out, it is useful to be able to keep an eye on cylinder temps, as I found that when temperatures approached 400F, then I could hear engine detonation.

My old Digatron tach came with a rubber suspended mounting bracket, and I made simple clamp to attach it to one of the roll bar tubes on my Odyssey.  I'm glad that this Digatron tach had the rubber mounting, because the Honda Odyssey FL250 is so buzzy that it is good that the tach is somewhat isolated from the vibration with the rubber mounting.

So far, I have found the Digatron tach to be a useful addition to my Odyssey.  If you really want to get serious about monitoring engine temps in order to get maximum power and reliability from your 2 stroke engine, then you will probably want to monitor EGT.  Exhaust gas temperature (EGT) is a much better indicator of what's going on inside your engine.  You can also buy a Digatron tach with EGT function.  For what I'm doing, the DT-6E with CHT is fine since it gives me a general idea of how hot the engine is getting.  I mainly wanted the tach function anyway.  The Digatron DT-6E is an old model tach.  Check out the short video clip to see a much newer Digatron that displays both cylinder head temperature and engine speed simultaneously.  No need to toggle back and forth between the the CHT and tach mode like on the old DT-6E.  This newer Digatron is installed on a 2 cylinder Skidoo snowmobile.
